COVID -19 Update 6.1.2020
Posted on 06/01/2020

June 1,  2020

Welcome to June Fort Lee Families,

This is definitely not the June we were expecting or had planned for. After weeks of explaining “social distancing” and “stay at home” to your children, parents now face the challenge of explaining the racial tension, social unrest and unfortunately violence, that is occurring in our country. These are the times that require parents to have difficult yet necessary, age appropriate conversations with their children. The school district will be posting information and links of websites that will hopefully assist you with that effort.

We have also received information from the State Treasurer's report. The Treasurer is predicting a State revenue shortfall of $10 billion. This will impact all school districts because some budgeted State Aid will be eliminated.  Districts will be asked to re-do budgets without the additional state aid that we had expected.  We will do our best to revise the district budget without eliminating staff or programs.

School Districts have received some guidelines from the Governor’s Office and the Department of Education regarding graduation ceremonies. As it stands now, any outside gathering is limited to a maximum of 25 people in attendance. District administrators continue to develop plans, however, it would still be premature to announce any definitive activities at this time.

The district  staff and administrators are also planning for the 2020-2021 school year. Whether we have a regular opening, a remote learning opening, or a hybrid instructional program, we will be prepared. What the start of school looks like will be dependent on public health directives provided at that time. The primary factor driving this will be the health and safety of our students and staff.

IMPORTANT: The borough has been providing COVID-19 testing for residents. If you have questions about participating please call the Fort Lee COVID-19 call center at 201- 592-3500, extension 1700.

  • If you and your family are in need of any kind of support (food, household supplies, emotional or physical assistance), please contact the Fort Lee COVID-19 call center at 201- 592-3500 extension 1700. The Office of Emergency Management is monitoring these calls.
  • Sign up for the municipal alerts through the nixle alert notice system at nixle.com or by texting 07024 to 888777.
  • Don’t forget to complete and submit the census information.

REMINDER:  Maintain your social distancing and stay at home. These rules are still in place.

Activity Suggestion: The warmer weather provides more opportunity for outside activities. You can try a hike across the George Washington Bridge. There will be great views up and down the river on a clear day like today..

The Red Cross is in need of blood and platelet donations. Please donate if you can. https://www.redcrossblood.org/

Stay home and stay safe.

We are getting through this,  TOGETHER.
