Dear Intermediate and Middle School Parents/Guardians,

Non-mandated transportation applies to K through 8th grade students who live under two miles (2.0) from their elementary, intermediate and middle school, and 9th through 12th grade students who live under two-and-a-half miles (2.5) from the high school as per N.J.S.A. 18A:39-1 and specified under the criteria of N.J.A.C 6A:27-2.2.

The Fort Lee Board of Education will offer subscription bussing for non-remote students who do not meet the state mandated mileage requirements and attend the Intermediate and Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year. Students must live within 1.7 - 2 miles from their school to be eligible for subscription bussing.

All subscription bussing applications must be completed in-person or by mail and must be submitted with payment on or before August 15th of the current school year. The assignment to routes will be based on a first come first served basis, depending on availability along your bus route once application and payment is received. Families with more than one child who qualify for subscription bussing will receive a 15% discount.  Any families who wish to participate in the subscription bussing program must be currently registered in the district prior to applying. Subscription Bussing applications will not be processed unless all 2024-2025 school year fees and fines (ex. food service account balances, book fines, iPad fines, etc.) were paid in full.

All applications received after August 15, 2025, are considered a “late application” and will be placed on a waiting list. Wait list applications will be reviewed beginning the third week of school. As seats become available, your payment will be processed, and we will notify you by email of your child's bus assignment with details.

Students will be assigned to existing bus stops on existing routes based on availability closest to their home. No changes or requests for additional routes or stops will be added. All students participating in the subscription bussing program are subject to all rules and regulations regarding bus discipline and safety procedures as specified in the Student Code of Conduct and board policies.

The subscription bussing fee for the 2025-2026 school year is $500 annually. The fee can be paid via check or money order. All fees are “nonrefundable” and late applications will only be accepted on a seat available basis.

All families who qualified for Free/Reduced Lunch last year (year prior to which you are applying) will be eligible for subscription bussing with proper documentation/verification at a reduced rate of 25% of the annual fee. Please verify your eligibility before registering for subscription bussing services. Contact the Business Office at (201) 585-4612, ext. 7505 for more information.
