2022 Summer Learning and Summer Reading
All Fort Lee educators are committed to cultivating a passion for reading. According to the National Institute of Education (1988), “…the amount of reading done out of school is consistently related to gains in reading achievement.” Reading also enables us to expand our horizons and develop new ideas. As this academic year comes to a close, we encourage all students to read for fun over the summer break. With the assistance of our school librarians and the help of the Fort Lee Public Library, we’ve provided some recommendations here, but there are so many more wonderful books for students of all ages to explore. With your guidance, students can select anything they want to read (books, magazines, graphic novels, Ebooks, audio books, picture books, etc ), even if they do not appear on this list. We do understand that some books might be difficult for some students to read independently at this time. This is a perfect opportunity for you to read with your child, an experience we all loved and cherished in our childhood. What we ask is for students to read and read often!

Safe Return Plan Updated 6-20-22
As announced in the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE)’s April 28, 2021 broadcast, in March 2021 President Biden signed the Federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act, Public Law 117-2, into law. The ARP Act provides an additional $122 billion in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) to States and school districts to help safely reopen, sustain the safe operation of schools, and address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the nation’s students. As with the previous ESSER funds available under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSA), the purpose of the additional funding is to support local educational agencies (LEAs) in preparing for and responding to the impacts of COVID-19 on educators, students, and families. Additional information on ARP ESSER may be found in the NJDOE’s funding comparison fact sheet.

Parent Communication and Reopening Plan Update
Dear Fort Lee families: At our most recent scheduled Board of Education meeting the Fort Lee Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Board Policy 1648.11 - The Road Forward COVID-19 Health and Safety. This policy contains an attachment of the District Reopening Plan. In its current format it follows the recommendations of the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH). These recommendations make the wearing of masks; optional beginning March 7, 2022. This plan does describe the conditions that must exist for this recommendation to remain. If there are significant increases in school and/or community related transmission, the District in consultation with the local health department may reinstate some measures to mitigate the spread. Please be reminded, regardless of the decision each family may make, we respect and understand that decision. We will not tolerate bullying, harassment or intimidation on any of our campuses. We teach our children to be respectful and we ask all stakeholders of the same respect. If there are any questions regarding the wearing of masks please contact your child’s school. Thank you for your continued support. Robert Kravitz Superintendent of Schools

A La Carte Lunch Sales
Beginning Monday, October 4th, students will have the opportunity to purchase second meals during lunch for a fee.  Intermediate and High School students may also purchase beverages.  There must be money on a student's "PayForIt" account to purchase second meals or beverages.  Balances that existed on a student's lunch account prior to the pandemic remain on the student's account.  To add funds to a student's account, visit payforit.net or send a check made payable to the "Fort Lee BOE Cafeteria Account."  Pomptonian cashiers will not accept cash but will accept checks. Lunch menus, prices, and a link to the “PayForIt” application may be found on the district website by clicking on Food Services under the Parents tab.
